About Aimperes

AIMPERES (AI-driven Modular Platform for Emission-Reduction & Efficient Shipping) is developing AI-powered energy management solutions that help the existing maritime fleet reduce fuel consumption and emissions. By turning operational data into smarter decisions, the project aims to accelerate the transition towards cleaner and more efficient shipping.

The challenge

Most of the vessels operating today will still be sailing well beyond 2040. While new fuels and next-generation vessel designs are essential for achieving long-term climate goals, meaningful emission reductions are needed now. Yet many shipowners lack the tools and operational insights required to continuously optimise energy use and reduce emissions across their existing fleet. AIMPERES was created to help bridge that gap.

Turning data into lower emissions

AIMPERES is developing an AI-powered Energy Management System that helps ship operators reduce fuel consumption and emissions through smarter, data-driven decision-making. By combining real-time emissions monitoring, advanced vessel models, hybrid digital twins and operational decision support, the project transforms complex data into clear and actionable guidance for crews and operators.

The training vessel Ab Initio will be used for testing in the AIMPERES project.

Designed for the existing fleet

Designed for retrofit and integration with existing onboard systems, AIMPERES offers a practical pathway to cleaner and more efficient shipping without major vessel modifications. The technology will be demonstrated on inland, coastal and deep-sea vessels, proving how digitalisation and artificial intelligence can deliver immediate operational, environmental and economic benefits across different segments of the maritime industry.

Supporting smarter shipping

By bringing together leading experts in maritime operations, artificial intelligence, vessel design and energy systems, AIMPERES aims to accelerate emission reductions across Europe’s existing fleet. The project’s ambition is simple: to help shipowners make better decisions every day—and turn those decisions into measurable reductions in fuel consumption and emissions.

The AIMPERES consortium gathered in Paderborn, Germany for the official kick-off in June 2026.
